SWARM Biotactics – a globally pioneering startup in the field of biorobotics – is looking for an Insect Neuroscientist to join us at the earliest mutually convenient time.

Founded by an experienced founding team and solidly financed, SWARM Biotactics is developing biorobots – initially based on insects – for a wide range of real-world applications.

Essential qualifications and experience:

  • PhD in Biology, Neuroscience, or related field (completed or near completion)
  • Strong foundation in neuroanatomy, ideally with a focus on insects (e.g. Drosophila melanogaster)
  • Familiarity with experimental behavioural studies, ideally involving insects

Desirable knowledge and experience:

  • Previous work conducted on cockroaches
  • Microsurgical techniques
  • Optogenetics
  • Electrophysiology

Key responsibilities:

  • Develop and test novel control strategies for insect-based biorobots
  • Optimise the current methods, utilizing electrical signal stimulation and pharmacological modulation
  • Collaborate across disciplines to integrate biological insights with hardware and software engineering
