Organization Mission

The Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Facility is located within the Front Office of the Peacebuilding and Peace Support Office (PBPSO), part of the Departments of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs and Peace Operations (DPPA-DPO). The WPS Facility strengthens gender-responsive rule of law support to Member States, UN entities, justice and security institutions and other stakeholders, in line with international gender equality norms and the Security Council Resolutions WPS.

Context

The Women, Peace and Security Facility of the Peacebuilding and Peace Support Office (PBPSO) is seeking a passionate and skilled volunteer to support the development of video material for the launch of the UN Portal on Women in Justice and Security, which is a key deliverable of a project entitled “Accelerating the Women, Peace and Security Agenda and Young Women’s Empowerment through UN Assistance to Rule of Law and Security Institutions (Phase II).”

The UN Portal on Women in Justice and Security will be the first centralized, publicly accessible repository of data and good practices on women’s participation in justice and security institutions worldwide. It will address critical data gaps related to women’s participation, including barriers and progress, showcase Member States’ good practices, and support evidence-based policymaking and gender-responsive reforms in the justice and security sectors.

The video material will serve as the flagship communication product for the global launch of the UN Portal, bringing to life the stories, aspirations, and impact behind this initiative. It should inspire Member States, UN partners, and the wider public to understand why women’s meaningful participation in justice and security institutions is vital to sustainable peace, prevention, human rights and inclusive governance. The video will showcase the voices of women working in the justice and security sector, highlighting how gender equality within security and justice institutions can transform societies. It may also feature short statements from relevant UN officials and partner organizations.

This volunteer opportunity offers a chance to use creative storytelling to raise awareness and mobilize action for one of the UN’s most urgent priorities: ensuring women’s equal and meaningful participation in building peaceful, just, and inclusive societies. The resulting film will play a central role in the global launch of the UN Portal on Women in Justice and Security and serve as a lasting communication asset for PBPSO’s work on gender and the rule of law. As part of this project, the volunteer will contribute directly to the Women, Peace and Security agenda and to the UN’s broader mission of advancing peace, justice, and strong institutions (SDG 16) and gender equality (SDG 5).

Key Responsibilities

– Conceptualize, script, and produce high-quality video material (~5 minutes) for the launch of the UN Portal on Women in Justice and Security. From this video, extract and adapt shorter segments optimized for social media distribution.

– Collaborate with the project team to develop storylines that align with UN messaging and communication guidelines.

– Edit and finalize the film with appropriate subtitles, branding, and accessibility standards.

– Coordinate remotely with UN communications focal points to ensure consistency with UN visual identity and tone.

Required Skills and Experience

– Proven experience in film production, video editing, and visual storytelling.

– Proficiency in video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve, or similar).

– Strong ability to translate complex policy concepts into compelling narratives and visuals.

– Experience producing content for international organizations, NGOs, or advocacy campaigns (desirable).

– Familiarity with gender equality, peacebuilding, rule of law or human rights themes is an asset.

– Excellent communication and teamwork skills; ability to work independently under tight deadlines.
